The MJF Poster Legacy
The MJF Poster Legacy
Michael Beckurts’ flow state and the moments it keeps
Marking its second edition in the Franschhoek Valley, the Montreux Jazz Festival continues its long international tradition of commissioning artists to interpret each festival in that year’s festival poster. The official 2027 Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek poster art is by Cape Town based multi-disciplinary artist, Michael Beckurts.
Michael now joins a distinguished lineage of world-renowned artists like David Bowie, Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst who have contributed to the definitive collection of Montreux Festival art, sought after and collected around the world. Michael’s creation distills the collective flow state of live music into visual form. A rhythmic interpretation through line drawing and vibrant mark making is overlaid by bold colours that evoke the feeling of a late summer sunset or the wash of colour and light across a stage.
Michael has become a recognisable figure as he live-draws scenes at concerts across Cape Town. His combined love of music and his warm observational skills, have seen him being invited to project his drawing process onto venue walls in real time. For this 26 year old, the opportunity brings both recognition and an opportunity to participate in a world class event. “I look forward to being inside the Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek, interpreting and capturing it all.” he shared.
For art collectors and festival enthusiasts, a limited-edition archival print of the official poster, hand-signed by Micheal Beckurts, will be available for pre-order. Souvenir digital prints of the posters will also be available to purchase as part of the exclusive MJFSA 2027 merchandise range both at the Festival and online. Email hello@mjfsa.com for pre-orders of the 2027 poster.
In South Africa, Sam Nhlengethwa was the first commissioned artist for the inaugural Franschhoek Montreux Jazz Festival poster in 2026.
